Dental insurance

How insurance works at our practice

We are out-of-network with all dental insurance plans. We accept dental insurance and file claims on your behalf as a courtesy. Approximately half of our patients use dental insurance at our office.

What out-of-network means in practice:

For patients with PPO insurance plans, your insurance still pays toward your treatment when you see an out-of-network provider — typically a smaller percentage than they would pay an in-network provider, but a meaningful contribution nonetheless. We file the claim, and your insurance reimburses either us directly or you, depending on your plan.

The reason we have chosen to remain out-of-network is straightforward: in-network contracts come with constraints on the time, materials, and care that providers can offer, and we have made the choice to remain free of those constraints. The result is a practice that can spend the time each patient deserves and use the materials and approaches we believe in.

What we do for our insured patients:

  • Complimentary benefits check before your appointment, so you know exactly what your plan covers at our office and what your out-of-pocket cost is likely to be
  • Estimate of insurance reimbursement — we provide an estimate of what your insurance is likely to pay toward your treatment. The estimate is not a guarantee of coverage; it is based on the information your insurance carrier provides us about your plan
  • Claim filing on your behalf as a courtesy
  • Direct payment from insurance to our office, where possible — meaning you pay only your portion at the appointment

Ultimately, the cost of treatment is the responsibility of the patient. We will be transparent about everything — what your insurance is expected to pay, what you can expect to pay out of pocket, and what your total investment will be — before any treatment begins.

CareCredit

Healthcare financing for larger cases

For patients who want to spread out the cost of treatment over time, CareCredit is a healthcare-specific financing option that many of our patients use. It works similarly to a credit card, but with significant benefits:

  • Interest-free promotional periods for many plans (often 6, 12, or 18 months)
  • Extended payment plans for larger cases — sometimes up to 60 months
  • No prepayment penalties if you decide to pay off the balance early

CareCredit is particularly common for implant cases, full-mouth rehabilitation, and other larger treatments where the total investment exceeds what insurance covers.

You can apply for CareCredit before your appointment or at the office. Most patients receive a decision within minutes.

Membership Savings Plan

For patients without dental insurance

We offer an in-house Membership Savings Plan for patients without dental insurance. Both plans include comprehensive preventive care plus a 10% discount on all other treatment provided at our office. There are two annual plan options:

Traditional Adult

$589/year

Value of $900+

Periodontal Adult

$889/year

Value of $1,250+

Custom arrangements

Making it work for your situation

For larger cases that exceed standard financing options, we are sometimes able to work out custom payment arrangements. If you have a specific situation that does not fit any of the above categories, talk to us — we will explore what is possible.

Without insurance

Options for patients without insurance

If you do not have dental insurance, you have several paths forward:

  1. 1 Pay at the time of service — straightforward and avoids any administrative complexity
  2. 2 Use CareCredit for larger treatment
  3. 3 Enroll in our Membership Savings Plan for predictable preventive care plus a 10% discount on all other treatment
  4. 4 Combine approaches — for example, using the Membership Plan for preventive care while financing larger treatment through CareCredit

For new patients without dental insurance, the cost of your first appointment is $99. This includes the dental exam by Dr. Jackson or Dr. Romine and any radiographs or imaging needed during the visit.

We will discuss your options at your consultation and find the approach that works best for your situation.

A note on Medicaid

A note on Medicaid

Jackson Dentistry is not a Medicaid provider. We do not accept Medicaid for any treatment.

Frequently asked

Common questions about insurance and financing

What does "out-of-network" actually mean for my benefits?

For most PPO insurance plans, you can still use your dental benefits at an out-of-network provider — your insurance will typically pay a percentage of the cost. The percentage may be lower than for in-network care, but the contribution is still meaningful. We will run a complimentary benefits check before your appointment so you know exactly what to expect.

Will you tell me what my treatment will cost before I commit?

Yes — always. You will leave any consultation with a clear understanding of the cost of your care, with every procedure clearly identified.

Do you accept Medicaid?

No. We are not a Medicaid provider.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, check, debit cards, and major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover). We also accept CareCredit for healthcare financing.

Can I use both my insurance and CareCredit?

Yes. Many of our patients use insurance to cover what their plan pays, then use CareCredit to finance the remainder. We will help you coordinate.

Is the Membership Savings Plan the same as insurance?

No. The Membership Savings Plan is not dental insurance — it is an in-office program. It typically saves money for patients who would otherwise pay out-of-pocket for routine care, but it is not insurance and it is not portable to other practices.
